Objective goals:

The Product Manager Saws & Hand Tools (PMS&HT) is tasked to generate maximum growth, profit, and return on assigned assets (Band Saw Blades, Power Tool Accessories & Hand Tools)

The PMS&HT will have ultimate responsibility for managing an entire business segment process ensuring complete and on-time delivery of salable assets.

Prime Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Develop a clear understanding of the business economics for the managed market segment. At a minimum, the successful Manager will have command of the following Company information:
    • Inventory
    • Major Cost and expense elements
    • Actions which most impact cost and profit, and how these economies compare with competitors
    • Operational costs which vary with volume
    • General operation costs which influence margin
  2. Compile & Chronical Competitive Market Information
    • Library competitor’s sales volume, product offering, market strategy
    • Define market channels and margin structure
    • Research total market potential and market trends
  3. Define and present Saw/HPTA/Hand Tool product and pricing for Starrett promotional programs
    • Highlight product feature and benefit enabling Marketing to develop product catalogs, concepts for sell sheets and POP’s
    • Provide product / PIM information for: www.starrett.com,ensure up-to date, accurate information
    • Attend to: regular market segment profitability analysis
  4. Product Management -Pinpoint poor product performers with low gross margins and initiates actions to:
    • Raise selling price when possible
    • Suggest product changes to Market Development
    • Consider applicable resourcing of product to Strategic Purchasing
    • Discontinue product
    • Devise other possible solutions
  5. Facilitate Sales Revenue- identify good profit performers with high margins. Initiate action to:
    • Increase selling and promotional emphasis to gain immediate, high margin market share
    • Collaborate and meet regularly with other Starrett business units to collect and share global market data, discuss new product ideas and monitor global competitive activity
    • Develop an annual Product strategy map AND a three-year plan for the assigned market segment
    • Correct and complete set-up of new products in the Oracle ERP system
  6. Support Activity
  • Visit key distributors and end users
  • Assist the sales team in presenting the product line and programs
  • Work with sales to select products for trade shows
  • Ensure promotional materials are in place and show personnel are trained on features and benefits of new products
  • Provide monthly demand planning data for top products: Analysis to consider promotional activities, large new opportunities, new product and business lost
  • Develop training material for employees, representatives and distributors

Required Relationships:

The Product Manager must work closely with the following departments to achieve desired results.

Sales: To implement specific sales programs, ensure emphasis on assigned products and to obtain continuous, meaningful feedback from the marketplace. The PMS&HT, is to work with Regional Managers, Territory Managers and Product Specialist to evaluate target accounts and achieve market penetration in specific channels.

Production: Provide sales forecasts and regular inventory reviews so as to effectively manage, product availability and product cost.

Product Development: Provide market input and set priorities for new products. Provide ideas to facilitate product enhancement and cost/margin improvement.

Finance: Understand and manage business economics to obtain current, meaningful reports of cost structure and profitability on asset segments. Monitor results achieved on new product development.

Marketing: Develop specific promotional plans for the upcoming business year. Determine the budget dollars, define clearly the objectives of such a plan and note the expected return. Monitor results and when necessary, take quick action to cancel promotional efforts, if results are not achieved.

Purchasing: Monitor inventory levels for assigned products ensuring adequate turns and service levels. Provide demand planning input for key products.

 

Job Requirements:

The selected candidate will have a four-year college degree in business, marketing or related discipline and will have a minimum of five years’ experience in the Industrial, Construction channels of North America.

Process/Platform Management

  • Create and manage data within CRM.

  • Leverage capabilities and communications between all marketing software platforms including CRM, marketing automation, website, PIM/DAM, BI and ERP to maximize communication and e-commerce sales potential.

The L.S. Starrett Company, manufacturer of precision tools, located in North Central Mass. is seeking to fill the following position of CNC OPERATOR.

Job Summary:

  • Perform a normal range of turning, drilling, tapping, reaming, boring, facing and similar machining operations on single or multiple spindle automatics or CNC controlled machines to produce a variety of parts composed of materials such as: steel, brass, bronze, aluminum, stainless steel, etc.
  • Setups in the main are exacting but not difficult requiring the changing of collets, feeders, pads, guide bushing to accommodate the various sizes of stock.
  • The CNC machines require downloading the program to the machines. Sequence of operations, cams and tooling are generally prescribed.
  • Select speeds and feeds within prescribed ranges.
  • Grind tools to meet varying conditions and materials.
  • Mount and clamp tools in the machine.
  • Position cams in the machine and adjust for proper timing of operations.
  • Adapt standard cams and tools to special and short run jobs.
  • On the CNC machines the operator must follow the instructions on the cover sheet as to tool grinding requirements and turret location. Tolerances are close on diameters and between shoulders, concentricity and squareness but not difficult to maintain.
  • Detect faulty operation or defective material and report these and/or any unusual conditions to foreman.
  • Inspect the parts at frequent intervals to assure that the print specifications are being maintained.
  • Replace or sharpen worn out tools as necessary.
  • Remove the chips from the machine and dispose in proper location.
  • Required to set-up and operate more than one machine.
  • Maintain the machines as required by cleaning, oiling and greasing, etc. Perform all duties in compliance with all safety and health regulations.
  • Perform all other duties required or directed.
  • Keep the work area clean, orderly and safe manner.

Job Summary:

  • Setup and perform a variety of blanking, punching, piercing, forming, shearing, trimming, bending, and similar press operations on a variety of sheet metal parts of materials such as steel and brass.
  • Setups not difficult and are checked by setup man or foreman.
  • Select die sets or punch and die members and remove or insert any removable sections as required for job.
  • Place die set or punch and die members in the press, align as necessary and bolt or clamp in place on bed and in ram.
  • Determine and set stroke of ram, check setup to insure tightness of all bolts and clamps.

The Supervisor of Production Planning will report to the Supply chain manager and will be responsible for inventory planning, production scheduling, purchasing and logistics for our major North American facility located in North Central Massachusetts.

Objectives:

•    Reduce production costs by optimizing production scheduling and inventory levels
•    Reduce backorders by achieving improved fill rates and on time delivery
•    Lower inventory level and improve turnover
•    Coordinate external forecasting requirements between sales, manufacturing, purchasing and logistics
•    Lead internal forecasting requirements with both international distribution centers and manufacturing operations

Responsibilities:

•    Lead the materials management for 5,000 finished SKU with 25,000 components discrete manufacturing process.
•    Lead a Team of Planners
•    Perform high level review of Bill of Materials, routings, capacity planning, production yields and scheduling data and identify gaps in data requirements.
